Okay, so here's what you need to know from E3 2017.
This was E3 2017. Let's break it down.
Far and away one of the best trailers of the show, the newly announced Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is out this year for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
It's just fun writing, crazy sci-fi and way over-the-top ultraviolence. Love it. Also out of Bethesda's camp, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider will drop this year, and is getting a purchase.
The most surprising new game of the conference, for my money, is Ubisoft's Skull & Bones. When Ubisoft Singapore made the sailing in Assassin's Creed III, we all said that sailing thing needed to be an entire game. When they made AC: Black Flag, we were proven right, and when they abandoned the sailing in future Assassin's Creeds, each time I felt a bit more disappointed.
Well, Ubisoft Singapore have been working on something...
And here's some gameplay of Skull & Bones:
Anthem is the next thing from the core BioWare studio, and it looks like better graphics than Dragon Age Inquisition, more RPG-adventure than Destiny and the solid third-person adventure and shooting of Mass Effect.
The perennial indie favorite Cuphead (Xbox exclusive) finally has a release date - September 29th.
Far Cry 5 continues to be a day-one purchase.
Ubisoft also pleased a generation with the reveal of Beyond Good & Evil 2, a prequel to the original game, via a prerendered trailer with a lot of personality.
Over at the Sony camp, Spider-Man got a nice-looking gameplay demo, but it's their first-party stuff that really impressed.
God of War launches early 2018:
The DLC for (the spectacular) Horizon: Zero Dawn launches this year, Days Gone continues to look like a biker-themed zombie apocalypse I can get behind (zombie bears!), but this trailer for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy really locked me in.
Annnd that's pretty much it for the big stuff.
The Xbox Scorpio has been unveiled as the Xbox One X. It will launch November 7th for $499 US.
Microsoft also had a much better indie showing than Nintendo or Sony, with standouts The Last Night, The Artful Escape, Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Ashen all looking pretty hot, while Sony snagged... Undertale for PS4 and Vita. Which while nice is no Last Night, Artful Escape, Ori and Ashen.
In deeply tragic news, Vanillaware's 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is essentially absent from E3, with little but a standee at Atlus's booth and the same trailer that revealed the game at TGS 2015, but now with English subtitles.
Booo Atlus, boooo! Show us gameplay! Tell us the genre!
