Ahem. I love cartoons.

I do.  I love them more than normal TV and movies, often.  

Castlevania.

I don't often find time for cartoons, but some of the best shows out there are animated, in my humble opinion. You've got some all-time-great television like...

• Batman: The Animated Series
• Futurama
• Adventure Time
• Rick & Morty
• Paranoia Agent

...and the list just keeps going.  Put Anime into the mix (see: Paranoia Agent) and the list blows up even bigger with Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Puella Magi Madoka Magica.  Tragically, my shelf lacks Madoka Magica, but everything else I need, I got.  I've got Harvey Birdman and the original Loony Tunes cartoons on DVD, I've got the complete Venture Bros and Hellsing Ultimate and Archer and Kill la Kill, and every Ghost in the Shell anime ever produced, including all the terrible ones.

Netflix's Little Witch Academia

(Sigh.)  I really wish I had time to actually watch 'em.  But lately, there's three cartoons I was able to make time for - Netflix's (excellent) Castlevania series, Netflix's (excellent) production of Trigger's Little Witch Academia, and I was finally able to watch One Punch Man. 

It's a lot of silly fun - a normal guy decides to be a hero, just for fun, and begins a rigorous training regimen that results in all his hair falling out.  Three years later, he lives a humble hero existence, but is horribly, terribly bored because he can end any fight - against a colossus, against a superbeing, against an asteroid the size of Texas - with one punch.  He remains a normal, boring, kind of silly and dumb guy who just happens to be basically omnipotent, and One Punch Man ends up being one of the better anime comedies out there.  It's like a Japanese Venture Bros, almost - taking the piss out of a genre by casting its cape-wearing superpeople as normal people who are socially awkward and make dumb mistakes - and every so often this silly little fellow punches a walking mountain so hard it explodes.

One Punch Man

It's good.  So my recent return to cartoons made some recent news very appealing.  Have you heard of Disenchantment?  Rough Draft Studios (the crew that made Futurama) with an extended voice cast featuring John DiMaggio, Billy West, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Jeny Batten and Lucy Montgomery.  Created by Matt Groening.  With a 20-episode order, due out in 2018 on Netflix.

 "The series from the creator of “The Simpsons” and “Futurama” is described as an adult fantasy about a crumbling medieval kingdom known as Dreamland. The central character is a hard-drinking princess Bean, her elf companion Elfo and her “personal demon” Luci. The first 10 episodes are targeted to premiere next year.

“‘Disenchantment’ will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you,” Groening said."

Oh God, yes.  And there was another one, what was the other one...?  Hm.  Maybe I'm just thinking about how hyped I am for The Orville.



I love A Million Ways To Die In The West, for the record.  I'm gonna' love this and it's not going to pull the numbers required for a show with a lot of special effects and it'll get cancelled but 'till then, I'm probably gonna' love it.
