Middle-Earth: Shadow of War introduces the Marketplace
In a live stream today that lasted around 30 minutes, Monolith introduced the in-game economy of Shadow of War as well as the Marketplace. Jared Rabago and Mike de Plater explained what the market contains and what in-game currency you’ll need.
Through the market, you’ll get Loot Chests, War Chests, XP Boosts and Bundles. Loot chests contain gear (weapons and armor) of varying rarity (rare or epic). These chests also contain Boosts that will help your character level up faster.
War chests, on the other hand, provide Orc followers of varying rarity (regular or legendary) to help you forge a strong army. They also contain Training Orders that will enable you to level up and customize your Orcs.
With the types of boosts you get, you can customize your orcs and grant them different weapons or elemental damages like fire arrows. You can even level up a rare orc and make it a legendary one with boosts.
The final type of item that you can buy here are Bundles. They package up Loot Chests, War Chests and Boosts together at a good price.
The first currency you’ll need is “Mirian,” which was used in the first game (Shadow of Mordor). You can use it to buy basic silver and gold loot chests. Mirian can be obtained by:
- Defeating Treasure Orcs
- Destroying Gear for Mirian
- Destroying Orc followers for Gear
- Finding Mirian stashes throughout the game
The second one is “Gold” which can be used to buy a higher level of loot boxes, War chests, Boosts, and bundles. It can be obtained by:
- Purchasing through Xbox Live, the PlayStation Store or by adding to your Steam Wallet using real money.
- Awarded in small amounts at specific milestones.
- Awarded for participating in community challenges.
Keep in mind that all of the stuff you buy here you can also get it through the game. However, if by some reason you feel you want to get them faster, you can go to the marketplace and buy it.
Be sure to catch Monolith next week on their next stream.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War will be available October 10 on Xbox One, Xbox One X, Windows 10 PC (Windows Store and Steam), PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro.
