Uncharted movie Director says he hopes to deliver the start of an "Indiana Jones-type" franchise

The Uncharted movie has been hanging around for well over half a decade with "development hell" being a nice way of putting its condition for a majority of that time. To be fair, the movie feels closer to reality than it ever has before thanks to the hiring of Tom Holland and his soaring popularity. Couple in the addition of Stranger Things' Shawn Levy to helm the film, and things are looking (relatively) up. 

In speaking with Nerdist, Levy talked about his vision for the film and how he is hoping to turn it into an "Indiana Jones-type" franchise for a new generation of people.  

"We're trying to kind of take the spirit and the tone and the attitude of the game...and apply it to this Drake chapter that you haven't seen told and hopefully get that right...giving an Indiana Jones-type franchise to an audience that didn't grow up on Indiana Jones."

Levy also describes the film as a "treasure hunting action movie with attitude" and that speaking with Tom Holland provided an "aha" moment, which turned into the direction of going with an origin story. 

"He kind of put it really succinctly in saying, if we do the origin of Drake--Tom Holland as younger Drake--that is something that we haven't seen as the plot of game 1, 2, 3, or 4."

Regardless of these details, Holland himself was still unsure if the film would even "work out," and considering the movie's protracted development, cautious optimism is a no brainer here.
