Watch Code Vein shows its first gameplay

The folks of IGN showed the first look at the gameplay of the upcoming action-RPG game ‘Code Vein’. Developed by Shift Inc. (known for the God Eater series) and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, Code Vein aims to be a spiritual successor of Dark Souls.

The video shows a fast paced gameplay, very much like Bloodborne, but perhaps a little bit faster. The combat is very similar to Dark Souls with many weapons at your disposal. The character uses light and charged attacks to strike against enemies. Blocking and dodging will also be available.

The dreaded stamina is here too. It wouldn’t be a Dark Souls style game without it. The player will be able to use “gifts” which are abilities or buffs that can be useful in combat. There’s also an AI companion that will help you in combat either by attacking enemies or by healing you. He will even revive you if you perish.

A small portion of the story was also revealed. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the world was destroyed by a mysterious force. You fight against a group of entities called “The Lost”. Your character is a “Revenant” who obtained vampire like powers at the cost of losing all his memory and having thirst for blood. That would pretty much describe you as a cursed creature.
The Developers are using Unreal Engine 4 and they are obtaining good results. The scenarios have a dark tone and the graphics look very polish and with an anime style.
Code Vein is scheduled to be released in 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
